Proverbs 27:1 “Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”

How true it is! In the latter part of September, I experienced a change of plans in my daily routine that was not expected. In 15 minutes, I was suffering pain in a way never felt before. I assumed it was just a catch in my back and would soon stop. WRONG! The pain continued for nearly three weeks. After some time in the hospital and a $10,000.00+ bill and hundreds in prescriptions, I was sent home, worse than when I entered. Of course, each person I met had a “fail-proof remedy” for me, so I tried heat, ice, massage, horse liniment, herbal concoction, all kinds of balms, chiropractic, TENS machine, etc.

I was forced to do something I had never done in all these years and that was to call Pastor Montoro in New York and cancel out. I knew I could never negotiate the airport and I couldn’t see Pastor Montoro pushing me around in a wheel chair.

I also had a commitment in Knoxville TN. I drove there with the help of Mary Lou, stopping midway for a short visit with her brother and family. In Knoxville, I preached 3 sermons standing on my left leg. For 25 minutes, I did not set my right leg on the floor because the pain was so intense. However, God blessed and a young man in his 20’s was saved and a young lady surrendered to be a missionary. I met some new missionaries and each of them was wonderful. One was a national from Pakistan, named Jonah. I do not remember his last name; even if I did, I could not spell it or pronounce it. Hope you have a chance to meet him.

I am doing much better now and can walk without the use of a walker. Yes, I still have pain but nothing to compare with before. I have an appointment with an orthopedic doctor and will hopefully get cortisone shot in my left knee.

I will be leaving Dec. 2 for Lake Havasu City AZ to preach and talk with the people about helping them build a new sanctuary.

As I’ve mentioned before, when you work with old codgers, health problems are to be expected and this has surely been the year for that! The Murphy’s now have their ducks in a row and are on the road. Praise the Lord!

Dec. 12th, I’ll be 79 so pray for me and my wife; we both are beginning to feel our age but we don’t want to quit!

Sincerely yours and securely His,
Bob L. Perryman

Just had the “Red Hatters” here at our house for a monthly party. They usually meet at a local restaurant, eat and go home. You know me, I wanted to do something different. So, I had a soup bar, a pizza and salad bar, a drinks bar and a dessert bar. One of the gals said we were going “bar-hopping!” For entertainment, each one had to act out a charade of a thing they were thankful for. I think the “shower” lady won. Then, prior to their arrival, I had stuck each of the letters spelling THANKSGIVING throughout the house. You know how ladies like to look thru others’ homes? Each letter was placed openly, with no opening nor moving necessary. They had a ball but a lot of trouble, too. One letter could only be seen as they sat on the toilet stool! One was on a fan blade. Try it sometime.

I’ve been nurse for Bob for a while.. At least,I knew where to find him!

I filled 7 baskets full of artificial flowers and placed them along our sidewalk. It looks very pretty. I just hope the neighborhood dogs don’t find them too attractive.

Another family just joined our little new church in Van Alstyne. It is so neat to see some of the people taking responsibilities and more attending S.S. and Sunday evening. Gives me memories of Overland Park in 1966!

Love to you,
Mary-Lou

A Thanksgiving Poem

‘Twas the night of Thanksgiving.
But I just couldn’t sleep
I tried counting backwards
I tried counting sheep.

The leftovers beckoned
The dark meat and white
But I fought the temptation
With all of my might.

Tossing and turning
With anticipation
Tne thought of a snack
Became Infatuation.

So. I raced to the kitchen,
Flung open the door
And gazed at the fridge,
Full of goodies galore.

I gobbled up turkey
And buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots,
Beans and tomatoes.

I felt myself swelling
So plump and so round.
‘Til an of a sudden.
I rose off the ground.

I crashed through the ceiling,
Floating into the sky
With a mouthful of pudding
And a handful of pie.

But, I managed to yell
As I soared past the trees
Happy eating to all
Pass the cranberries. please.

May your stuffing be tasty.
May your turkey be plump.
May your potatoes ‘n gravy
Have nary a lump.

May your yams be delicious
May your pies take the prize.
May your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off of your thighs.

May your Thanksgiving be blessed!!
