January and February, 2015

January started off with us at our home church which provided the time needed to go to Jerico Springs with a trailer load of cabinets we acquired during the salvage project in Moore, Oklahoma. It was good to see Pastor Rob Thomas and his wife Gail again and be able to help with the work at Cedar Hills Baptist Church.

Later in January we pulled our trailer south to Porter, Texas. Pastor Paul Brantner (whom we had visited in December) and the Grace Baptist Church family are working on a first building after thirteen years of gathering for services in a rented store front. Samuel Martin and his wife Barbra had been there working since November, being helped by Doug and Margie Brown.

When we first arrived we were busy with drywall work, both Mary and I sanding the walls and doing some mudding and taping and texturing walls. There is a great spirit of cooperation. Pastor Price of nearby Cornerstone Baptist Church, a friend of Pastor Brantner, came several days and sprayed paint on all the interior walls. Mary did a lot of hand painting of trim for the sanctuary. When a group of “Baptist Builders” came to make cabinets Mary ended up doing a lot of sanding for them. We all worked on the construction of the sound booth and baptistery area in the sanctuary. Pastor Brantner was there working every day and on Saturdays it is common to have several from the church there working as well. The folks at Grace Baptist Church are kind hosts, their generosity has been greatly appreciated by all of us.

The church flooring will be mostly ceramic tile, thirteen pallets were delivered in mid-February. Toward the end of the month we were joined by David Finley and his wife Sharon, a few days later Drew Needham and his family. It is good having a group of four New Testament Church Planting families working on this project together. The final week of February we had to say good-by to Samuel and Barbra Martin. They would have stayed longer but had obligations associated with their scripture printing ministry that made it necessary for them to leave.

The end of February found us busy laying tile throughout most of the church building. We concentrated on the bathrooms first, tiling and grouting them so the bathroom fixtures could be installed.

Please continue to pray for us, for God’s guidance in our lives, for long life and health so that we might serve Him, and also for safety in travel as we continue to assist churches through the New Testament Church Planting
ministry.
